What Are COVID Toes?
‘Covid Toes’ are a side effect of Coronavirus.
Caused By Coronavirus Infecting The Lining Of Blood Vessels
Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, health officials have stated that the main symptoms to look out for include a high fever, a new, persistent cough and a loss or changed sense of smell and taste.
But now scientists believe that a new side effect could be linked to the virus, called “COVID toes”.
Research by the International League of Dermatological Societies and the American Academy of Dermatology found that some coronavirus patients have suffered from chilblain-like inflammation on their feet. The lesions tend to appear once other symptoms of the virus have passed and sometimes last for months at a time.
Symptoms are said to be mild in the majority of cases and the feet return to normal within weeks. COVID Toes can cause inflammation in the toes, which turns them red and swollen, and then they eventually turn purple; sometimes in the absence of other COVID-19 symptoms; sometimes before the appearance of other symptoms.
COVID Toe usually heals without many long-term health complications.
