Musculoskeletal Podiatry
Musculoskeletal or MSK Podiatry is a specialist area of Podiatry which focuses on the structure and function of a person’s feet and lower limbs.
A musculoskeletal assessment can identify the underlying causes of lower limb pain or injury including but not limited to heel pain, knee pain and back pain.
About MSK
If you are suffering from foot pain which is not skin or nail related then you would benefit from a musculoskeletal assessment of your feet and lower limbs.
This comprehensive examination will allow us to gain an understanding of any underlying problems and provide you with a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Musculoskeletal Assessment
If you are suffering from foot pain which is not skin or nail related then you would benefit from a MSK assessment of your feet and lower limbs.
We will assess the range of movement of your foot and ankle joints, alignment, strengths and weaknesses of your lower limbs. We will also perform a gait analysis using specialist digital insoles (see gait analysis below).
A personal treatment plan will then be drawn up which, depending on your problem, could comprise: footwear advice, an exercise rehabilitation programme, orthotics or all of the above.
MSK Assessment with gait analysis £100

Gait Analysis
Gait analysis is the analysis of the way you walk or run and is useful for identifying biomechanical abnormalities.
Gait analysis forms part of the musculoskeletal assessment here at Plymouth Podiatry and at present is included in the price. We use state of the art technology PODOSmart® for our gait analysis.
PODOSmart® is the latest technology which allows us to accurately measure and analyse your gait. PODOSmart® provides 13 different metrics to allow us to conduct an in-depth analysis of your biomechanical capabilities.
All you need to do is wear the PODOSmart® insoles in your shoes and go for a short walk or run. The data collected is then downloaded and analysed by artificial intelligence algorithms. The complex algorithms are then translated into useful clinical data which your Podiatrist can use to inform your diagnosis and treatment plan.
Orthotic Therapy
Orthotics are specialised insoles which modify or alter foot alignment and function to relieve the stresses and strains which are causing your particular pain.
They can be used to treat foot & ankle pain, knee hip and lower back pain and can address gait abnormalities. They can also be used to slow the progression of bunions and provide relief from the pain of arthritic joints.
Bespoke orthotics are the gold standard of orthotic therapy. They are custom orthoses which are made to fit your foot precisely. A 3D scan is taken of your foot using the latest structure scanning technology. This is then sent to an orthotics laboratory with my prescription where your orthotics are made to the desired prescription for your problem.
Off the shelf Orthotics - from £25 to £60
Bespoke Orthotics - £400
